This remaster was newly assembled from the highest-quality tapes available, rather than sourced from the existing 1980 album masters. supervised by Shawn Murphy and Skywalker Sound, this version was transferred to a new hi-resolution (24/192). On May 4, 2018, Walt Disney Records released a newly-remastered edition of the original 1980 album program on CD, digital download, and streaming services. The Ultimate Digital Collection is no longer available for sale, and hasn't been ever since Walt Disney Records took over the rights. Plus, since it featured the American program and not the European one, it has 35 minutes of additional music that were finally available in digital for the first time (at least in their John Neal mixes). However, the Ultimate Digital Collection was available from sites like HDTracks in lossless up to 192 kHz/24-bit, where the Polydor CD would've been standard CD quality which is lossless 44.1 kHz/16-bit. ![]() This release was sourced from a new high quality scan of the OST master, so it still featured the John Neal mixes and all the original edits. The original American OST masters were finally made available in a format other than vinyl in 2016 by Sony Classical, who rereleased them as part of the "Ultimate Digital Collection" which came out soon before they lost the rights. Despite the Sony digital remastering, which minimally improved the sound heard only on high-end stereos, this 2004 release is essentially the 1997 RCA Victor release. The set was released in a less-than-spectacular package with the new art work mirroring the film's first DVD release. In 2004, Sony Classical re-pressed the 1997 RCA Victor release of the Special Edition Star Wars trilogy, including The Empire Strikes Back. In 2004, Sony Classical acquired the rights to the classic trilogy scores since it already had the rights to release the second trilogy soundtracks ( The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones). While this release was a nice quality upgrade over the original LP, it was not a direct replacement of it due to the missing music. This release used the exact same masters as the original LP, so it contains the same edits and the same John Neal mixes. Unfortunately, since they used the European program, the Polydor CDs only feature 40 minutes worth of music. The European OST program was later released on CD everywhere by Polydor in 1985. The tracks themselves are all identical in content to the US program, as they came from the same masters. As it was only a single LP, it featured only 40 minutes of score instead of 75, and it was also reordered for unknown reasons. ![]() Interestingly, the European version of the Empire OST had a different program than the US one. This would be the last Star Wars album where this was done, as Return of the Jedi's OST would utilize the film mixes. Once again, the cues on this album do not use the film mixes made by Eric Tomlinson, but rather were remixed from the 24-track masters by John Neal. ![]() For this OST, Williams personally selected 75 minutes of music, which were edited down and rearranged into a program designed for a "pleasant listening experience". Just like with the first film's OST, the album for Empire was assembled by music editor Ken Wannberg under the directions of John Williams. 21 It is credible that PEEP-induced reduction in cardiac output may outweigh the benefit of improved arterial oxygenation, resulting in reduced organ oxygen delivery ( D O 2), and this was suggested by the early work by Suter and colleagues 22 examining the effect of PEEP on lung compliance. 17, 18, 19, 20 This is a result of increased right ventricular afterload, reduced left ventricular preload, and reduced biventricular compliance. High levels of positive airway pressure throughout the respiratory cycle have the potential to impair cardiac performance, manifested as a reduced cardiac output. 12 Consequently, it is unclear who might benefit from the application of PEEP clinical investigation has, to date, failed to provide a conclusive answer. 12 Despite this, the results of four large studies examining high-PEEP strategies in ARDS have demonstrated an equivocal effect on mortality, 13, 14, 15, 16 confirmed after meta-analysis. 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 Survival benefit was seen in patients when PEEP was assigned based on oxygen requirements in combination with low vs traditional tidal volume ventilation, 11 and some risk reduction was shown in a pooled subgroup analysis when patients were stratified based on ARDS severity. 5, 6 Studies investigating the effect of PEEP have consistently shown an improvement in oxygenation and pulmonary compliance. The rationale for the application of PEEP during mechanical ventilation of the lungs of patients with ARDS is to prevent alveolar collapse, reducing injurious alveolar shear stresses and improving ventilation–perfusion matching, and thus, arterial oxygenation. ![]() 3 The global burden of the disease was estimated as 5.5 million patients yr −1 requiring intensive care unit admission and mechanical pulmonary ventilation. ![]() The incidence of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has been estimated at ∼70 per 100 000 patients yr −1, 1, 2 with a lethal outcome in 55% of patients. Increasing PEEP increased arterial oxygen tension but decreased tissue oxygen delivery. ![]() While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit talk, hear and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. It takes years of hard work and practice. Chess isn’t meant to be mastered after the first game. Practice makes perfect!Īs with any game, the more you play, the more you’ll learn. When deciding which pieces to sacrifice, it can help to count the points. An experienced Chess player will sometimes sacrifice lower-ranking pieces in order to save those that are more useful. In any game, you will lose some of your pieces to your opponent. You can even have "extra" Queens or other pieces! Don’t be afraid to make sacrifices If you can manage to get one of your pawns across the board to your opponent's back row, you can "promote" them into any other piece except a King. Simply choose the new piece you'd like them to become. Pawns can become Queens (or almost any other piece) Note: Castling can only be done if neither your King nor Rook have moved. To castle, you must first clear all of the space between your King and one of your Rooks. This will open up special move options for your King. Protecting your King is your number one objective, so as soon as you see an opportunity to castle, you should. With enough practice, you’ll be able to predict your opponent's moves based on how the board is set up each turn. Don't move into squares where they can capture your pieces, unless you see a potential advantage. Use their movements to come up with your own strategy for taking down each of their pieces. Stay focused and keep an eye on what kind of moves your opponent makes. It’s ideal to move to a spot that puts any of your opponent’s pieces under attack, but be careful you don’t set yourself up for a loss! Watch your opponent’s moves carefully Take a moment to consider your options before making your move. Not to worry though, we have some simple words of wisdom to help you get started. You’ve got to get those mental muscles moving if you want to best your opponent! Chess Tips & TricksĬhess can be a complicated game to play. ![]() She is your primary attacker and should be used to create creative offensive attacks.ĭon’t forget: Chess is a game of logical thinking and strategic planning. The Queen can move in any direction and move as many squares as possible - as long as it doesn’t move through any of its own pieces. Make sure to keep him out of danger, he is the one you need to focus on protecting. However, you won't be able to move your King into a position where it'll be in check. ![]() The King can move one square at a time in any direction. Use this unique characteristic to your advantage. Knights are the only pieces that can hop over other ones on the board. Knights move in an “L” shape: two squares in one direction then another at a 90-degree angle. Try and pair your Bishops with your Queen to make some dangerous offensive attacks. Note: a Bishop will remain on squares of the same color it started on. Bishopsīishops can also move any amount of squares, but only diagonally. Don't forget to castle in order to get one of your Rooks into a more useful position. Rooks are great defenders and are usually used to protect the King for most of the game. Rooks can move any amount of squares, but only forward, backward, or sideways. Keep on reading the instructions to learn about one of their unique abilities. Pawns become useful in the endgame if you are able to advance them down the board. ![]() Instead, they capture by moving forward one tile in a diagonal fashion. However, they cannot move forward into a square that is occupied by another piece. Pawns can only move forward one square at a time in Chess, except on their first turn when they can move ahead two. When your piece moves into a square that is currently occupied by an opponent's piece, you will capture that piece. Chess PiecesĮach piece on the board moves differently. Your objective is to capture your opponent's pieces from the board and get a checkmate, where the King can be captured and the opponent is unable to prevent the King from being captured with their next move. ![]() ![]() The Rosetta Stone course as I mentioned consists of 5 levels. I think this is realistic, and here’s why. In the past, you could schedule an unlimited number of sessions in a month, but now it seems they have limited the number to 4 sessions you can schedule in a month. ![]() I have yet to schedule a session, so I can’t say how it differs in content that before, but I intend to try it in the next week or so. This was probably done in order to make it less intimidating for those who are first trying out their new language. Speaking of Rosetta Studio, it appears that they have changed the previous live 60-minute session with a 30-minute session. (I could use it while driving, but I make it a personal point not to in order to pay attention to the road.) These features are just an added dimension to Rosetta Stone’s online course. In addition, the audio portion of the program is available for listening through iTunes, which I do when I go for walks. I have an iPhone and have access to the review for each lesson through Rosetta Stone if I had a tablet device, I could access the main content of each lesson as well. This is probably the wave of the future for Rosetta Stone to sell its programs solely on an online-access basis rather than downloading to one’s computer. This gives you on a subscription basis access to the entire course on a six-month or 12-month basis. And now Rosetta Stone in the US is offering a totally online version that doesn’t even require that you download the course like you had to before. In parts of Europe, Rosetta Stone is no longer sold in the familiar package with CDs–it’s downloaded via the internet. The advent of smartphones, tablet devices, etc., has made accessing the online course even more convenient than before. Self-study of a foreign language is possible, but you can only gain confidence if you are able to speak with an actual native speaker and make yourself understood. This feature alone in my opinion makes the investment in Rosetta Stone worthwhile. This allows you to learn the language, including Rosetta Studio, which allows you to practice what you’ve learned with a native speaker. What is different now is that you can order just the Rosetta Course alone. Some languages such as Arabic only have levels 1 through 3, which take you from beginning to intermediate level by the time you complete. Many of the most popular languages that Rosetta Stone offers such as Spanish have five levels, which take you from the beginner level at level 1, to becoming fluent in the language by level 5. The “main menu” in the Rosetta Stone Totale language-learning program is the course itself. Now that my father’s health condition has (fortunately) stabilized, I have decided to go back to Rosetta Stone and I wanted to mention some of the changes in the program for those who may be interested in purchasing Rosetta Stone. ![]() But this spring, when I moved to Chicago after living in Los Angeles for a decade in order to help my father who was dealing with some health issues, I found myself temporarily overwhelmed and had to curtail my Rosetta Stone online subscription. In fact, they made a nice mental break from all of the other things I had to do. However, I still was able to continue with my Rosetta Stone studies. Then in addition to my job search and Toastmaster club activities, I got busy with volunteer work for busy the Project Management Institute last fall. I completed the Spanish, French, and German, and then worked on the first level of Portuguese and Arabic. In the past two years, I have purchased many of the language-learning software packages from Rosetta Stone, including the following languages: Chicago’s Rollout–A Change of Habit (10).Chicago’s Rollout–The Pros and Cons of Small Businesses.IT Certification and the Feynman Technique–Part 1.IT Certification and the Feynman Technique–Part 2 and 3.Users of Rosetta Stone TOTALe gave it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. There are indeed enough obstructions to make us change our mind about studying a language sooner or later: having to spend another evening making an exercise, the meaning of which is yet obscure to us or dealing with desperation of not seeing any correlation between grammatical rules of languages and above all, overcoming the constant reflection, trying not to translate our own thoughts. Even though it may be a dream of our life to speak some foreign language, we still often have to exert ourselves when learning it. ![]() See Dealer Cost™ offers product information that is in-depth and understandable. We then put together a team to research products and most importantly the dealer price. We found experts in their fields and started asking questions. So we started this website because we did not want anyone else to feel disadvantaged like our family did that day. After that experience we felt there had to be a better way. We bought the boat, but we paid too much. We tried to wrangle on price without any real success. The best thing he had going for him was our lack of information. We went to the dealership where the sales guy held all the cards. Magazines featured articles, and had really great photo layouts, it only offered product description and the (MSRP) retail price. The only price we could find was the retail price listings or MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price). All of the product information originated from the manufactures. However the only information available at that time was sales brochures. When our family wanted to purchase our first boat we tried to find information for research. That's 12% less than its EPA range rating, but we've come to expect that from Tesla vehicles. In our Model S Plaid 70-mph range test, we were able to drive the Model S Plaid with the 21" wheel option a total of 300 miles in nearly perfect driving conditions. It's also EPA range rated at 348 miles per charge when it's fitted with the 21" Arachnid wheels. The Tesla Model S Plaid is the quickest production car ever made and can rocket from 0 to 60 mph in under 2 seconds in the right conditions. 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid (21" wheels): 300 Miles With the new, improved software, we were able to squeeze out 305.6 miles and handily beat the results of our previous two tests. In the two 70 mph range tests we previously performed on a base RDW Taycan, we achieved results of 293 and 297 miles. We were offered a rear-wheel-drive base Taycan to repeat the 70 mph range test we performed twice last year, and see if the new software did indeed make the Taycan more efficient. We had the opportunity to be the first news outlet to drive a Porsche Taycan with the new 2023 software which, along with other improvements, increases the vehicle's driving range. 2023 Porsche Taycan RWD (93 kWh) With Software Update: 305 Miles Tesla may have also added a little more capacity to the 2021 Model 3s, although this vehicle didn't have the 82 kWh battery pack that is shipping with the newer 2021 vehicles. The additional 20 miles may be attributed to the fact that this vehicle had only about 5,000 miles on it and the vehicle we used last year had about 15,000 miles so it had lost more capacity. We finished up with the exact same driving efficiency (4.25 mi/kWh) as we did in our range test with the 2019 Model 3. It held the title until the Lucid Air came out and crushed it with a 500-mile achievement. The 2021 Model 3 was able to drive 20 more miles than our 2019 vehicle of the same spec did last year. 2021 Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor, Long Range: 310 MilesĪfter a brief stint where the Porsche Taycan RWD claimed the InsideEVs range crown, Telsa was back on top with the 2021 Model 3 covering 310 miles in our 70 mph range test. It finished up with a consumption rate of 3.1 miles per kWh and used 104.7 kWh, according to the in-car energy chart, during the test. The electric Caddy outperformed its 312-mile combined EPA range rating by 5.8% and went 330 miles. We were able to get our hands on a three-week-old customer's RWD Lyriq to perform the InsideEVs 70 mph range test. The Cadillac Lyriq is available with a single motor, rear-wheel drive layout, as well as a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration. 2023 Cadillac Lyriq, Rear Wheel Drive: 330 miles If you get the 21" wheels, the EPA range drops to 305 miles, and with the 22" wheel option, it's 315 miles. The iX we had was fitted with 20" wheels, which has the longest EPA range rating. The rear-wheel-drive version of the EQS (the AWD version is the EQS 580 4MATIC) has an EPA range rating of 350 miles and is one of the longest-range EVs available today. I use Jamf to push out the installers, and as we have an autodesk license server, I just need to log in as Admin and point them to the server. Takes a while to sort, but then it works. I will then bundle the installers into folders up to around 5Gb in size, and compress the folder and then run a post install script to install everything from each compressed archive. I then use a test Mac to capture the essential sounds for each, and then I will do the same for the full sound library.
